R.E.A.D. PROGRAM AT GRACE
We are excited to offer a Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program at Grace Church one Saturday each month for children in grades 1-12. We provide a creative, relaxing, low stress environment to practice reading, which increases a child’s interest in reading and improves their comprehension skills.
All of the R.E.A.D. teams are registered therapy dog teams--registered with Therapy Dogs Incorporated. Each human/dog team has passed background checks, training, and testing to become registered with these associations and each dog will be groomed from head to toe and given a low dander treatment prior to each session.
Sessions will be from 10 a.m. -12:00 p.m. All participants must complete a READing Paws permission slip and it must be signed by a parent or guardian. In order for the handler to provide undivided attention to the reader and to the READing dog, a parent/guardian needs to stay in the lobby with any additional readers or siblings, and be available for their children after each one has finished his/her turn reading.
If your child is interested in reading to Crystal, Flynn, or Kejdi (Kadie), you may sign up on the sheets in the church foyer or you may contact Patti Stogner at ppstog@cox.net, or 478-320-3676, to sign up or if you have any questions or concerns. The READing Paws teams are excited to work with you and your children to peak their interest in reading and to help them excel!
